Meditation Classes

Master Higa teaches a unique method of meditation, unlike the
other forms that would make you need to sit in a particular posture
for hours with your legs twisted into a pretzel. Students in his
class need only a pillow, and lay in a comfortable
position.
Master Higa's meditation methods allow students to quickly reap
the benefits of meditation. A half hour of meditation can be a
invigorating as two hours of peaceful sleep. Please call
Master Higa to set up an appointment.
Meditation has been useful for such conditions as :
- chronic pain
- anxiety and panic
- sleep disturbance
- gastrointestinal distress
- fatigue
- headaches
- job or family stress
- skin disorders
- high blood pressure
- stress factors in heart disease
Here is a student testimonial from Fran K.:
Friday, March 17, 2000: Private
meditation session with Sensei Higa. He explained the
divisions of the brain using a picture of the brain. He also
explained how I would be channeling my breathing to follow various
pathways through the brain. This is a healing
meditation. Each of the breathing pathways would be done
repeatedly, approximately 20 to 50 times in each
direction.
I lied down on a mat with a pillow under my head. I closed my
eyes and began breathing from the base of my neck, around to the
front of the head and over the top center back to the base of the
neck. I became more and more relaxed. At 5:10 PM, Sensei
took my blood pressure and pulse while I was meditating. The
reading was 131/99, pulse 73. I then breathed from the right
temple crossing the forehead to the left temple. This was then
reversed, going from left to right. Sensei then instructed me
to go from the right to the left by channeling the breath directly
through the center of the brain. This was also reversed, going
from left to right. It was during this part of the meditation
that I felt a slight twitching of my right ankle and foot.
Next, I breathed form the top center of my head down to my
toes. Sensei explained that this was a very powerful part of
the meditation. After a while, he told me to direct the
exhalation breathes from the top of my head, down through my torso
and down only through my right leg and toes. I felt like the
breath was stopping at my right knee. Then, suddenly my right
ankle and foot went into a very intense "seizure."
The foot twitched so severely that it shook right off the
mat. It actually frightened me, but I never opened my
eyes nor did I stop the meditation. Sensei rushed to my
side an knelt beside me. He assured me that everything
was all right and to continue. The right foot and ankle
twitched several times, but not as intensely as the first
time. I no longer felt like the breath was stopping at the
right knee, but rather that it truly was going down to my
toes. My exhalation breaths became very strong.
Sensei took my blood pressure and pulse at 6:15 PM. The
reading was 133/100, pulse 68. Sensei told me to breath
easy. I felt so wonderfully relaxed, almost in a dream-like
state. I enjoyed the feeling immensely. After awhile of
this euphoric state, I was told to open my eyes. I lied there,
eyes open, while we talked about the meditation experience. I
felt so wonderful. I sat up and we continued to talk for
awhile.
It wasn't until I stood up and began to walk, following Sensei
to the front of the Dojo, that I realized the true healing of this
meditation. I was walking differently that I had in 33
years! In April 1967, I shattered every major and minor bone
in my right ankle. I have lived with lots of pain and have no
cartilage in the right ankle. I started walking around the
Dojo in circles. My ankle didn't feel as stiff and my hips
felt like they were in better alignment. I felt like I was
walking straighter and taller and not favoring my right ankle at
all. It felt great. I demonstrated the strength and
balance felt in the right ankle by standing on one foot, the right
one, which I have almost never been able to do since breaking that
ankle.
I was so overcome with joy and amazement. I truly
was in awe. I left the Dojo praying that this wonderful
peaceful feeling and the simple act of walking properly would last
forever. I will be forever grateful to Sensei for sharing this
healing meditation with me.
